KRAS Mutation

Also known as: KRAS+, Kirsten rat sarcoma viral oncogene

Definition

A mutation in the KRAS gene, one of the most common oncogenic drivers in cancers, particularly lung, colorectal, and pancreatic cancers.

Detailed Explanation

KRAS mutations cause cells to grow uncontrollably. Historically difficult to target, recent breakthroughs have led to KRAS G12C-specific inhibitors. KRAS mutations are found in about 25% of lung cancers and 40% of colorectal cancers. Testing for KRAS is important for treatment selection.
