Cancer that begins in the urothelial cells lining the bladder, ureters, or renal pelvis.
Detailed Explanation
Urothelial carcinoma (formerly called transitional cell carcinoma) is the most common type of bladder cancer. Risk factors include smoking, chemical exposure, and chronic bladder inflammation. Treatment includes surgery, chemotherapy, and for advanced disease, immunotherapy with checkpoint inhibitors which have shown significant benefit, especially in platinum-resistant disease.
